Project of the Year - Retail

This Award recognises the new build or refurbishment of a building within the Retail sector that most effectively demonstrates high levels of user satisfaction and comfort and delivers outstanding measured building performance, energy efficiency and reduced carbon emissions. Examples of buildings that would be suitable for this category include, but are not limited to, residential developments and refurbished housing projects.
Who should enter
Clients, architects, contractors, building services engineers, quantity surveyors, consultants, property owners, land/estate owners, building occupiers, project managers, mechanical and electrical engineers.
Entries in this category must be from within the United Kingdom (see International Project for projects outside the UK), and projects must have completed during the period 1 June 2013 - 31 August 2015. Entries may be submitted by any or all members (together) of the project team and should be accompanied by full year of operational data.
The Building Performance Awards seek to recognise outstanding, measured performance. Entries which include clear evidence of a full year of actual measured energy data and performance of the building in use are strongly preferred by the judges. Winning entries provide clear evidence of how the building really performs in use. Ideally this will include a Display Energy Certificate, ESOS report or an entry into the CarbonBuzz database, but other clear evidence of actual performance is accepted. Where a building is expected to have a DEC by law, then we would expect to receive an up to date DEC as part of the entry package.
Successful entries will give details of as many of the following elements of the project as possible:
Synopsis of the project and its building performance objectives, focusing on low carbon, energy efficiency and the health and wellbeing of occupants.
One year’s evidence of measured building performance and energy use data.
Challenges, objectives or constraints and the design solutions adopted.
Specific elements of excellence and innovation in terms of design, equipment or application including lighting, heating, and cooling, façade or public health services.
Specific energy efficiency aspects of the project, such as energy metering, monitoring and targeting, use of recycled/recyclable materials and other low carbon features.
Costs and expected savings associated with these measures and anticipated payback periods.
Description of commissioning, handover and soft landings processes, and how they contributed to achieving the designer’s intended building performance.
Collaboration between members of the project team that has contributed to improved performance.
Any environmental or energy assessment, or other third party evaluations.
User feedback on the building and satisfaction with the measures adopted.
