Energy Using Product of the Year

COOL-PHASE® Low-Energy Cooling and Ventilation System, Monodraught

Cool-phase is a low-energy alternative to air-conditioning that reduces energy consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 90%. The natural cooling, ventilation and heat recovery system uses ‘thermal batteries’ to capture free energy and release it when needed, with clean, fresh air.

In addition, Cool-phase does not use coolant gases. The main materials inside the unit are ‘upcycled’ from waste byproducts of other industries, reducing land fill. The reduced running costs provide a financial incentive and rapid payback to the investment. With very low running, servicing and maintenance costs and an expected working life of up to 20 years, the system has been designed to be easy to retrofit, as well as being suitable for new build.

At night the Cool-phase unit draws in cool outside air and passes it over the thermal batteries to charge them. During daytime it will monitor both air quality and temperature, as either of these changes will supply fresh air and/or cooling to the space. The total cooling power is provided by the intelligent combination of ventilation, precooling the room and through active cooling using the thermal batteries.

During winter the system works in reverse, removing warm, stuffy air and transferring it to cool, fresh air. Typical office applications see temperature rising throughout the day; the Cool-phase system stores this heat and uses it to preheat fresh air coming in. In addition, the system can trap waste heat from the day and release it as needed.
