Kate Bellingham addresses 2016 CIBSE Patrons House of Lords Lunch

This year’s CIBSE Patrons lunch at the House of Lords took place on 10th May. The guest speaker was Kate Bellingham. Originally an electronics engineer specialising in computing, Kate began her broadcast career on Tomorrow’s World. She has worked on educational programmes for the Open University and BBC Schools and now sits on an advisory board of the Institute of Electrical Engineers. Kate is also a Patron of WISE – Women in Science, Engineering and Construction.

Kate discussed the many benefits of careers in engineering and in particular, the need to encourage more young women to see it as a career choice. She felt this also required a positive and sometimes more flexible approach on the part of employers, a challenge that she hoped those employers present would be able to respond to.

The lunch was once more hosted by Lord O’Neill of Clackmannan, and the CIBSE hosts were Patrons Chair David Fitzpatrick, Chief Executive Stephen Matthews and President John Field.
