SLL Official Knowledge Partner for The Challenge

The Society of Light and Lighting is delighted to announce that it is the official Knowledge Partner for The Challenge Student Speaker Competition! The Society is looking forward to supporting Round III at Napier University, Edinburgh on 2 – 3 February 2015.

The competition started back in June 2014, inviting the universities involved to put forward a maximum of 10 lighting papers, submitted by their students.

The successful students from this round were then asked to film and submit an elevator pitch for their topic which was judged by a panel of 5 lighting professionals, including the Secretary of the Society, Brendan Keely and these 5 professionals became the student’s coaches for round III.

The 15 student participants in Round III have each been allocated a coach to help guide them to success at Napier and then on to the finals at the PLD-C in Rome, October 2015. Those who were not selected were given the opportunity to write up their papers and submit them, to be featured on the VIA/PLD website.

Round III of the competition will be held on 2 – 3 February 2015 at Edinburgh’s Napier University. This mini conference is also the warm up for the PLD-C 2015 in Rome, where the winner will be announced from the 5 finalists.

PLD-C is a biennial convention and was created back in 2007 for the global lighting design market. Designers, lighting architects, researchers, universities, industry and clients use PLD-C as a platform to meet, learn about the latest developments in lighting design, and discuss the future of the lighting profession. PLD-C stands for high quality knowledge transfer and international networking opportunities. The Society are honoured to be the official Knowledge Partner for this event.
