The Society of Light and Lighting (SLL) is celebrating its 20th year of the prestigious Young Lighter of the Year Competition, which is now open for entries. The Competition provides a high profile opportunity to help promote younger members of the lighting profession.
Entries are open to those actively working in any aspect of the industry or studying, and the Society of Light and Lighting is encouraging all to participate. Entrants should be under 30 years of age on 8th May 2014, and this date is also the closing date for entries for the Competition.
Anyone working in lighting, design, architecture, manufacturing, research, healthcare or studying a lighting related educational course can enter.
Brendan Keely, SLL Secretary
"The lighting industry is an exciting one to be working in right now, and lighting design is a maturing profession
SLL Secretary Brendan Keely, MSLL and a former Lighting Studio Design manager at interdisciplinary practice BDP, says:
"This Competition provides a unique platform for young ‘lighters', whether Society members or not, to present on a lighting subject of their choice, to hone their presentation skills, and to win the considerable professional kudos of being chosen as the SLL Young Lighter of the Year.
"The lighting industry is an exciting one to be working in right now, and lighting design is a maturing profession. At the SLL we want to actively encourage emerging talent, and this Competition is very much part of that initiative."
For the third year running, the winner will be presented at the Lux Awards on 20th November 2014.
All finalists receive a cash prize along with a year's membership to SLL. For more information please go to www.sll.org.uk/yloty
