Self Assessment and Preparation
The course is intensive and requires a high level of knowledge. Whilst we do not have formal entry requirements for the register course, we do ask candidates to self-assess beforehand. To assist you please see the self-assessment questions and other documents on our DEC Downloads page.
Which DEC training course do I need?
- If you have not previously taken any training, please select a two-day course. The first training day will primarily be focused on all the theory related to producing Display Energy certificates and during the second day of training you will learn how to use Operational Rating (OR) Software which is the tool used to produce DEC's and that is available as a free download, from the Department of Communities and Local Government Website.
- If you are a member of the CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant Operations Register, you will need to undertake training in the Operational Rating (OR) Software. When completing the DEC training application form please select a one-day training course only.
- If you are a member of the CIBSE Low Carbon Consultants Design Register, you can choose to take either the full two-day course or if you feel you can illustrate your competence in the first day of the training without attending then choose a one day course. Please consult these self-assessment questions, and the DEC APEL form before making this decision; the APEL form is available from the DEC page of the CIBSE Certification website
To become an Accredited Energy Assessor once you have completed the training visit the DEC page of the CIBSE Certification website
