In a mortuary the hot & cold water for everyday hand washing & cold water for the emergency eye wash are supplied from the same services that supply the hot & cold hose reels;these are classed as Fluid category 5 & as such are fed from their own tank with the correct back flow prevention & air gap etc. Is this compliant ?I don't think its sensible if so & would appreciate some other opinions on this.

This is a tricky one but my personal view is that the hadwashing should be fed from a potable supply with backflow protection appropriate to cat 5. Just because its difficult to get hands clean with water thats as dirty as what you're trying to wash off! Also a legionella risk assessment would highlight the dangers of using water potentially contaminated to cat 5 and putting it into a sink with splashback, etc. as theres a risk of infecting the operative with Legionella or something equally unpleasant. cheers Matt
