hey i am doing a case study to show from first principles how solar panels are calculated compared to the software t-solar and when i got the CIBSE solar heating design and installation guide i am kinda a lost to were some of the figures are coming from as it doesn't really give a good worked example of how to work it out from first principles and it says most of the workings out are taken from SAP but when i go onto there site i cant find how or were the formula are that CIBSE have taken so i can see were or how to apply it to case study i have ifu guys could give any input it would be great thanks

Have a look at BS EN 12975, this gives the method for calculating solar thermal efficiency. Alternatively there’s ASHRAE 93, which is broadly the same but uses slightly different coefficients. The difficult bit is getting irradiance values that account for the clearness index, there are European databases that can give irradiance and clearness values for any location you want although cant remember their name.
