New guide to non-domestic hot water heating systems

Tuesday, 26 January 2010

The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) has published AM14: Non-domestic hot water heating systems, a comprehensive application manual that describes a logical sequence of processes to help engineers design efficient heating systems.

The newly released publication, covering water-based heating systems for buildings other than dwellings with a total installed capacity from 45kW up to 2MW, is expected to receive a warm welcome from the building services community as the last CIBSE guide on the subject was published more than 20 years ago.

Arnold Teekaram of research body BSRIA, principal author of AM14, says: "The guide is intended for designers and engineers who install and commission non-domestic heating systems or components. It addresses both the design of heating systems for new buildings and the specific requirements relating to the design of replacement systems and refurbishment of existing systems."

AM14 is wider-ranging in its scope than its predecessor, AM3 (no longer in print), as well as being more comprehensive. The project began with the objective of updating AM3 but, as its development proceeded, the scope was widened, largely because of advances in technology including modular boilers and renewable heating sources.

AM14 is available now priced at £35 for CIBSE members and £70 for non-members. For more information, or to order, call 020 8772 3618 or visit www.cibse.org/publications
