CIBSE Facilitated Bursaries
CIBSE encourages bursaries to support students of building services engineering from diverse sources including charities, commercial organisations and trusts set up for the purpose.
Awards news:
2010 Ken Dale Travel Bursary Finalists Announced
Thank you to all of our members who submitted entries for the 2010 Ken Dale Travel Award. Entry topics ranged from the Building Energy Rating system in China, to classroom design in Uganda and an International Review of District Cooling Technologies. CIBSE would like to congratulate our four finalists:
• Chris Soley & Farah Naz from Gifford, London
• Elmer Moncado from Buro Happold, Bath
• Rebecca Warren from SKM, Manchester
• Deivy Riquier from Parsons Brinckerhoff, London
The winner will be chosen following interviews in late April.
CIBSE would like to invite all of our members to read the 2009 Ken Dale winner, Ross Smith's, excellent report on his research into "Traditional approaches to water management in the Levant and their applicability to contemporary development".

Bursaries you can apply for now:
CIBSE Undergraduate Award 2010
CIBSE Facilitated Bursaries for College or University Students:
Such bursaries shall normally be pledged to CIBSE for a minimum period of 4 years. The sponsorship amount is normally £1500 per year, plus a £150 travel allowance for any CIBSE or Sponsor events attended, unless specified otherwise.
The conditions which CIBSE imposes for the award of bursaries are:
- Bursaries shall normally be awarded to students of programmes of study recognised or accredited by CIBSE as leading to the Licentiate, Associate or Member grades of membership.
- Holders of bursaries shall be members of CIBSE (for example, Student or Graduate)
- A Bursary shall normally be awarded to an individual for at least a year and preferably for the full duration of the study programme on which they are enrolled
- The annual value of a student bursary shall be sufficient to make a substantial contribution to the costs of study
- Holders of student bursaries shall contribute actively to the life of the Institution, for example, through Regional activities
- The bursary recipient will be chosen by the university or college through an internal process
A CIBSE- facilitated bursary shall be designated and known as The CIBSE [insert name of sponsor] Bursary for example The CIBSE Patrons Bursary.
Sponsoring Organisations
Sponsoring organisations may attach specific conditions to the award of their bursaries by specifying, for example
- The college or university at which the bursary is placed
- The course or level of study, e.g. undergraduate or postgraduate
- A reasonable requirement for the holder(s) to participate in specified activities/events relating to the sponsor
