The aim of this paper is to analyse how an innovative displacement office ventilation system can be achieved using a closed loop design approach. The study demonstrates how design tools like the ASHRAE displacement ventilation analytical model and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) can be integrated into the design process of a pure displacement ventilation system for large open plan offices. The system performance has then been analysed using a 3-D steady-state CFD model to assess comfort conditions in the space. A parametric analysis has also been conducted to examine the influence of internal and solar gains to air and radiant temperatures and cold draughts in the space. The model investigates the resultant air and operative temperatures, the stratification patterns in the space and the temperature difference between head and foot of a sedentary user in the occupied zone.
