The new suite of BS 8486 test standards

Adam Scott, CIBSE Representative on BSI MHE/4 Lifts Committee

The new BS EN 81-20: 2014 and its supporting BS EN 81-50: 2014 require tests to be carried before a lift goes into service. BSI published BS 8486-1/2 to meet this requirement for BS  EN 81-1/2.  BS 8486-3: 2017 has been published and covers BS EN 81-20/50.  BSI is now working on a family of test documents to cover the supplementary standards as below:

Part 4: Passenger and goods passenger lifts in existing buildings conforming to BS EN 81-21;

Part 5: Lift alarm systems conforming to BS EN 81-28;

Part 6: Lift features for accessibility conforming to BS EN 81-70;

Part 7: Lift features for vandalism conforming to BS EN 81-71;

Part 8: Lift features for fire-fighting conforming to BS EN 81-72;

Part 9: Lift features for emergency recall conforming to BS EN 81-73;

Part 10: Lift features for evacuation conforming to BS EN 81-76,

Adam will introduce the suite of BS 8486 standards and review of BS 8486-3: 2017 and its relationship with annexes of BS 8486-1/2: 2007+A1: 2011 and the future BS 8486-4/5/6/7/8/9 family.

17.50 WORKSHOP

How do you comment on standards?

Dr Gina Barney, IEE (IET) Representative on MHE/4

To comment on standards is not difficult if a "standard" procedure is followed.  The intention of this workshop is to take the mystery out of the process.
Drafts  for Public Comment of BS 8486-8 (firefighting tests to EN 81-72) and BS8486-9 (recall tests to EN81-72)  have just been published.
Therefore there is an opportunity for attendees to engage in the live creation of CIBSE Lifts Group comments and to submit them to BSi.  Expert assistance will be available.

Registrations will open shortly
