CIBSE Low Carbon Consultants and Energy Assessors

How to Join the Low Carbon Consultants Register

Low Carbon Consultant Design and Operations Training now include extra modules.  To reflect this:

  • LCC Design Training is now called EPC training
  • LCC Operations Training is now called DEC training

You are still welcome to join the Low Carbon Consultants Register, but you will be qualified (if you complete additional EPC software training) to produce EPCs or DECs - dependent upon the training that you take.  You will be eligible to join the Low Carbon Energy Assessor Register as well.

  • To join the CIBSE Low Carbon Consultants (Design) Register you must first pass an examination in the theory and practice of designing buildings for optimal energy performance...full details of exam and training here
  • To join the CIBSE Low Carbon Consultants (Building Operation) Register you must first pass an examination in the theory and practice of operating buildings...full details of exam and training here
  • To join the CIBSE Low Carbon Consultants (Simulation) or (Calculation) Register see below.

Note about Training and the Examination

There are no formal entry requirements to the examination, but it is advised that you familiarise yourself with the level of knowledge expected beforehand and take appropriate training.

  • CIBSE Professional Learning run the exam and training for the LCC Design and Building Operation parts of the Register
  • the training partners below provide the software exams and training.

Simulation or Calculation Registers

To gain membership of the Simulation or Calculation Registers, evaluation will be either by examination after the course or continual evaluation during the course; specific arrangements differ between training and examination providers. Once the completed evaluation has been marked you will be notified of your mark and also whether you have passed or failed. Certificates will be issued by the training and examination partners to successful candidates. Currently training and examinations are being offered by the following organisations:

For Simulation

For Calculation

These companies also offer training to those individuals that wish to improve their knowledge prior to taking the examination. Please contact them directly for information on training and examination dates and fees.

Renewal of Registration

Registration will be renewed annually. In order to re-register you will need to have undertaken CPD to increase your low carbon skills and you will be asked to account for carbon savings (or potential savings) for your projects using a simple on- line tool. The annual fees will be payable as set out here

Upon successful registration you will receive:

  • An entry in the online Register
  • A certificate
  • The LCC or LCEA logo to use on your business stationery (subject to usage conditions).

If your company is listed in the main CIBSE Directory of Practices and Firms, you will be given the opportunity to have a free link from your Register entry to your company details in the Directory thus allowing your company to market its other services.

  • If you have a query about being listed in the Directory of practices and firms email Richard Howard
  • If you have a query about any aspect of the Low Carbon Register email Ratija Chitnavis
