Proposed standard for the structure of data for use in Level 2 BIM
Objectives of the consultation
This consultation was issued by the British Standards Institution (BSI) in May 2014 and closed in July 2014. It was seeking views on the BS 1192-4 which was a proposed standard for the structure of data for use in Level 2 BIM (Building Information Modelling). This standard adopts COBie (Construction Operations Building Information Exchange) for use in the UK and will have a significant impact on the work of many CIBSE members in the UK.
To download the draft standard please follow the link below.
CIBSE did not submit a response to this consultation as there were no significant comments from CIBSE Members.
Results of the consultation and next steps
The comments made on the draft standard were collected by BSI and considered by the Committee responsible for the draft. The BSI has now published the new BS 1192-4: Collaborative production of information, Part 4: Fulfilling employers information exchange requirements using COBie - Code of practice. The standard can be downloaded from the BSI website.
With all central government construction projects from 2016 requiring implementation of Level 2 BIM, COBie is the tool to facilitate delivery of data for asset and portfolio management.
