Poster Competition

We are currently running a poster competition, eligible for all University Students in Scotland on Undergraduate or Postgraduate degrees, please see the brief below:

Sponsored by:

Designing the Building of the Future

This competition is for any student, full time or part time, in a course which is relevant to Building Services Engineering (i.e. Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, etc.). The competition will be split into two categories – Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG).
The aim of the competition is for individuals to design an A1 poster highlighting a design for 'The Building of the Future'.
Participants are asked to research building design purely from a services point of view and determine innovations to enhance building performance, or function, which could be utilised by 2030. Entries must consider the integration of smart technology within their building; however suggestions of any equipment must be scientifically possible and cannot be unrealistic (e.g. teleportation pads!), which would be suitable for use in their chosen building usage.
Participants are welcome to choose any building usage to discuss and can choose to discuss either a full approach to servicing the building, or one particular innovation for that building usage, or a mix thereof.
In both categories (UG and PG), the prizes will be:

  • 1st:         £500 and a Trip to the Easy IO Global Partner Conference 2019 in Amsterdam

  • 2nd:       £250

  • 3rd:        £150

The top five participants (from each category) will have their posters displayed at CIBSE Scotland Conference 2019 on the 13th of March. This will allow the opportunity to network and to attend seminars discussing topics which are affecting the industry in Scotland. The judging panel will also announce the winner at the conference and present the awards.
The posters will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Content

  • Innovation

  • Background Knowledge

  • Sustainability

  • Execution

All entries must consist of the following:

  • An A1 poster detailing your ‘Building of the Future’

  • An A4 summary sheet (1000 words maximum) detailing the approach and reasoning behind the technologies chosen for inclusion on the poster. This can include images, if appropriate. Please note that the summary sheet will be to support your poster, but the poster must be capable of standing alone without it.

Entries must be sent to by 1pm on the 22nd of February 2019. Along with your entry, please include in your email your name, university, year of studying you are currently in and whether you are to be included in the UG or PG categories. All files must be submitted in pdf format.
