Heat Networks: Code of Practice for the UK (1)
CIBSE/ADE CP1 HEAT NETWORKS UPDATE! WE NEED YOUR FEEDBACK
The CIBSE/ADE CP1 Heat Networks Code of Practice (2015) has been highly successful in setting minimum standards and improving the quality of district heating projects. CP1 has also begun to have a strong influence on the procurement of heat networks and also underpins much of the HNDU and HNIP work by BEIS.
However, it was always recognised that CP1 would need to be updated at intervals. CIBSE have appointed a team of experts to update CP1 and their work is covering three main areas:
Technical - There are technical issues that need to be clarified and strengthened, in particular: demand diversity, pipe sizing and issues around building internal pipework layout and insulation
Feedback - Experience in using CP1 is providing important feedback that needs to be captured. Also, new work carried over the last three years needs to be included. In particular: the BESA HIU testing scheme and the SBRI research programme
Checkability - A key issue is to make compliance with CP1 easier to verify/check. The ‘draft’ checklists need to be improved and fully integrated into CP1. CP1 needs re-designing to strengthen CP1 compliance.
THE CONSULTATION PEROD ON THIS PROJECT IS NOW ENDED
WE NEED YOUR FEEDBACK
The update team is seeking feedback on the current version. In particular, we want specific changes that you feel are necessary (and why). Please download and fill out the feedback form below with your specific changes:
FEEDBACK FORM in Word
and then send the completed form to CIBSECoP1revision@cibse.org
Alternatively, any free-flowing feedback and comments must be posted on the LINKEDIN feedback group via this link:
We need feedback by the end of April (NOW EXTENDED TO MID-MAY), otherwise it may be too late to include significant changes in drafts of CP1.2. The more specific you are in your feedback, the more likely it is that the authors may be able to include changes.
THE UPDATE PROJECT
The work is being funded by BEIS and aims to be as inclusive as possible throughout the DH sector. Phil Jones, Paul Woods and Martin Crane have been appointed to carry out the work on behalf of CIBSE/ADE. Phil Jones will chair the steering committee and Nick Peake (CIBSE) will act as secretariat to the steering committee.
We aim to publish a draft for public consultation in late Summer and hope that the work will be completed by Autumn 2018. Terms and Conditions of the steering committee are provided below. This also shows the project objectives, aims and proposed scope for this work.
CP1 Update Steering Committee – Terms of Reference
We believe an update to the code of practice will provide a further step forward for the sector to enhance the design, installation and operation of heat networks. We look forward to your feedback to contribute to an updated Code of Practice.
