CIBSE awards to recognise excellence in training

CIBSE has announced the categories for its Building Performance Awards 2014.  Training and development throughout the whole of the built environment is receiving considerable attention, not least due to greater recognition of the need to deliver energy efficient buildings, and the Awards will recognise this.

The Training for Building Performance Award is presented to the organisation that can demonstrate how a training initiative, innovation or programme has had a significant effect upon staff skills and development, resulting in a positive impact on the performance of buildings.

The 2013 winner of Training for Building Performance was Land Securities for its ‘Low Carbon Fit-Out Guide for Retail 2012'. The Judges commented: "The winning entry showed an ambitious approach to saving energy in retail practices - a notoriously challenging property sector."

Knowledge sharing is very much part of the ethos of CIBSE, therefore this Award has considerable significance. The Judges look for entries which demonstrate clear objectives and outcomes and how an organisation has used training and development to further the use and application of low carbon and sustainable technologies in their business.

Building performance is critical in helping reduce the UK's energy demands. Buildings consume almost 50% of our energy in the UK and it is recognised that around 20% of energy used in buildings is needlessly wasted. The CIBSE Building Performance Awards, which focus on actual, measured performance, not design intent or performance specifications, are judged by a panel of experts and industry leaders from a number of complementary spheres within the built environment.

The categories for the CIBSE Building Performance Awards 2014 are:

  • Carbon Champion of the Year
