Session 14, Paper 1, CIBSE ASHRAE Technical Symposium, Dublin, Ireland, 3-4 April 2014

This paper describes ASHRAE/CIBSE developments in the establishment of performance measurement protocols for commercial buildings, as presented in two recent ASHRAE publications: Performance Measurement Protocols for Commercial Buildings (2010) and Performance Measurement Protocols for Commercial Buildings: Best Practices Guide (2012). Both documents address energy, water, and IEQ (thermal comfort, IAQ, lighting, acoustics) measures.
Applications of the PMP document to the ASHRAE HQ building in Atlanta, Georgia, are presented and the UK and European context for these protocols is discussed. These applications and field tests indicated the need for an implementation document, the Best Practices Guide, which provides practical, step-by-step procedures for continuously evaluating and improving building performance throughout the building’s service life. The guide supports integrated commissioning and O&M activities.
