Generative design has been a buzz-word in architecture for some time now but there has been surprisingly little discussion as to how it might affect Building Services Engineering. This paper suggests that generative design has the potential to transform Building Services far more than the impact so far on architecture. This has the potential not just to affect the industry but the type of work engineering consultants do and the skills needed by engineers to be successful. The paper reviews the possible implications and considers how people in the building services engineer might prepare to reduce the impacts to them and their businesses.
