Sustainability is a great catch-all word but what does it actually mean in practice for our members? At the end of 2014 members were surveyed to find out their views on sustainability, what issues within the field are particularly important to them and how CIBSE can provide further support. 622 members from 31 countries responded, a 5% response rate.

The aspect which respondents felt was most relevant to their view of sustainability was natural resource efficiency and the issue which was felt will be most important in five years’ time is resources. The highest ranked areas of sustainability-related activity in relation to respondents’ work were Energy and carbon emissions, Building management, measurement and performance, and Legislation and regulatory compliance.
