Royal Alberta Museum, Edmonton Alberta Canada

Back to 2017 Technical Symposium Overview

Session 1 Paper 1: CIBSE Technical Symposium 5-6 April 2017, Loughborough University

The New Royal Alberta Museum is located in the subarctic location of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It is nearing completion in construction and commissioning and will be a destination for all Albertans when open in December 2017.

By capturing and expressing Alberta’s history, landscapes, and promising potential, the Museum’s new signature building will engage the public and change their perception of a Museum. The project was initiated as a building replacement project for the original Royal Alberta Museum, developed in suburban Edmonton in 1967 and closed in December 2015 to prepare for the move to the new facility.

The new facility was developed on a brownfield site in the downtown precinct of the City under a Design-Build model. The design embraces the new vision for Downtown Edmonton – creating a museum that is sustainable, contributes to a vibrant downtown, and is well designed and fully accessible.
