BSG Steering Committee
The BSG is led by a steering committee consisting of:
Hazim Awbi is Emeritus Professor at the University of Reading, UK. He holds BSc (Hons.) in Mechanical Engineering, MSc in Heat Transfer and PhD in the Aerodynamics of Bluff Bodies. He is a Member of CIBSE, Fellow of IMechE and Member of ASHRAE. He has over 30 years’ research experience in:
- Building ventilation (air jets and room air movement)
- Indoor thermal environment
- Indoor air quality
- Computational fluid dynamics application to the built environment
- Heat transfer and energy storage
He has published a number of books and numerous research articles in these areas. He is also on the Editorial Boards of the journals: Building and Environment, International Journal of Building Simulation, International Journal of Ventilation, and the Renewable Energy Journal.
Darren is the Building Physics Principal at Hoare Lea and the Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor of Building Engineering Physics at Loughborough University. He has supported the delivery of building physics solutions on UK and international projects across most market sectors for over 20 years. He holds an MEng in Architectural Engineering and a thermofluids-based PhD and is a Member of CIBSE and the Association for Project Management.
Darren has a keen interest in understanding and optimising the performance of natural and mechanical systems working with the building envelope to provide high quality, low energy environments. In his industrial role he supports, develops and promotes building physics best practices, R&D and skills & services across the firm and, in his academic role, he lectures, supports research and helps to develop teaching courses. He enjoys the role of co-author on publications such as CIBSE’s Guide A and AM11 on Building Performance Modelling.
Zsolt has many years of experience in applied building research concerning indoor environmental quality (IEQ), building ventilation, human comfort and work-performance of building occupants. He was leading member of a number of academic and industry-funded projects focused on pupils learning performance and IEQ, sustainable building ventilation & low energy cooling. He provides professional advice within his consultancy about building services engineering, product development, CFD, building simulation, testing and validation.
Sahm is an Energy Engineer at Arup. His EngD research was focusing on how to reduce energy use in the retail industry which is carried out in collaboration with Johnson Group. Sahm is interested in the use of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) within buildings, design of natural ventilation strategies and thermal modelling of buildings.
