CIBSE Building Simulation Awards
Building Simulation Awards 2019
Our group hosted the annual Building Simulation Awards 2019 at CIBSE B2P. From a diverse set of entries for the awards, each one was reviewed by three different reviewers to select the final six shortlisted entries. These six shortlisted entries were asked to present their projects live in front of an audience and judging panel. There was a fantastic depth and breadth of projects showcasing the state of the art in building simulation software, practices and techniques applied to real buildings. We had an entry from Griffin Consultants from the UAE who even called in live to present.
The final three were Bryden Wood, DSSR and Arup. The overall winner was announced as Liam Harrington from DSSR for presenting a 'Multi-tool building simulation modelling for Rolls Royce factory ventilation retrofit' case study. The judges were impressed with the use of CFD and building simulation tools to solve a complex problem in a difficult building with industrial uses.
All the shortlisted presentations will be available on our website soon.
The Awards were sponsored by Monodraught, IES, DesignBuilder and EDSL.
The Building Simulation Group (BSG) of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), supports and encourages the application of advanced building simulation tools for building and system design. It has an aim to drive best practices in building simulation primarily through organizing events, was previously heavily involved in the AM11 publication and is currently examining opportunities for certification in this field. In 2012 the Group initiated an annual prize open to postgraduate students from UK and overseas universities who undertake a research project at Master’s level or equivalent which included a major element involving the application of building simulation tools in their research. In 2018 the prize event format has been changed to focus upon the use of building simulation in industry projects in order to encourage high end usage, R&D and innovation in project-applied building simulation techniques.
