SLL Present HRH The Duke of York KG with Honorary Fellowship

The Duke of York KG has been presented with an Honorary Fellowship by the Society of Light and Lighting (SLL) in recognition of his contribution to the lighting industries.

The award, presented to individuals who have been for their exceptional work in promoting lighting and the lighting industries, was bestowed on The Duke of York KG at a special ceremony held in Buckingham Palace in central London.

As Patron of the UNESCO International Year of Light 2015, HRH The Duke of York KG, attended a number of celebratory events and engaged with the scientific, commercial and creative lighting industries. In recognition of his contribution, SLL offered the Duke an Honorary Fellowship of the Society, which was graciously accepted.

The Society’s President, Liz Peck FSLL, accompanied by President Elect, Jeff Shaw MSLL, Immediate Past President, John Aston FSLL, Past President Stephen Lisk FSLL, Chair of the Society’s London Events Committee, Peter Phillipson MSLL and the Society’s Coordinator, Juliet Rennie visited Buckingham Palace to present HRH with his Honorary Fellowship.

Filled with happy anticipation, the party were welcomed into the Palace, where they met with the Duke of York. The Duke was well informed on topical issues within the lighting industry, asking challenging questions with regard to LEDs, energy efficiency and the banning of the halogen lamp. The SLL representatives were more than happy to voice their opinions on these matters, along with offering any assistance on future royal lighting matters.

The meeting concluded with SLL President, Liz Peck awarding the Duke with his Honorary Fellowship.
