The PAS gives recommendations and guidance on undertaking a fire risk appraisal and assessment (FRAA) of the external wall construction of a multistorey, multi-occupied residential building. The development of PAS 9980 has been sponsored jointly by MHCLG and the Home Office.

The SFE Fire/Technical Committee will be sending in a response and invite contributions from all our members. Please send your contributions to the SFE response to by Wednesday 12th May to allow time to collate the responses and to contact commentators about any questions.

Please use the comment template above to allow the preparation of a collective response.  BSI will not accept comments in any other format, and so marked up copies on the pdf will impose an added admin burden on us to transcribe, a task which we do not have time or resource to undertake.

It is essential that the comments are constructive, and ideally supported with a proposed change to the draft.

This PAS is likely to have a significant impact on the work of façade engineers for some time to come and it is a very important opportunity for the SFE to be seen to contribute to this technical specification.

We encourage you to look at the whole PAS and comment on any areas of concern or which cause uncertainty or lack clarity. As this is a PAS this is the only opportunity for substantive comment.

Comments may also be made directly to BSI via the Standards Review Portal (registration is required to access the Portal).  The deadline for comments to reach BSI is Thursday 20 May 2021.
