This short course is intended to provide an overview of the relevant legislation, under which fire risk assessments are required, and the process of carrying out a fire risk assessment in accordance with PAS 79.
It covers the latest revision which creates PAS 79-1: 2020 (Fire risk assessment – Part 1: Premises other than housing - Code of practice) and PAS 79-2: 2020 (Fire risk assessment – Part 2: Housing – Code of practice), both of which came into force on 31 December 2020.
PAS 79-1 approximates to a revision of the previous (2012) version of PAS 79, but now has the status of a code of practice, rather than simply guidance.
The new Part 2 was created in response to requests from the housing sector for a code of practice dedicated to fire risk assessment for blocks of flats, sheltered housing, HMOs and other housing premises, following the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017.
