CIBSE WA Chapter advise you on the forthcoming CIBSE Annual Christmas luncheon which is the major networking event of the year for building services in Perth.

 The luncheon will be held on Friday 7th December 2018 (12.00pm for 12.30pm luncheon) at the Matilda Bay Restaurant in the first floor Roe Function Centre. The Function Centre offers picturesque views of both the city of Perth and the Swan River.



Juan Carlos Guzman – Head of Software and Computing Group at CSIRO Astronomy and Space.

Juan is a high energy and pro-active software leader, architect and developer. A veteran developing software solution for astronomical instrumentation data acquisition and processing systems, including large scale data-intensive applications running in High Performance Computing (HPC) platforms.

Juan is a strong advocate of agile software development methodologies and has extensive experience leading distributed, highly-skilled and diverse software development teams. He is passionate about developing high-quality software products, direct and open communication, continuous learning, coaching and increasing women participation in the Computing sector.

Juan currently leads the group of 20+ software developers and research scientists, who are responsible for the delivery of the software for the state-of-the art Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP). Juan and his team are responsible for all data acquisition and big data processing systems associated with the SKA project.

Juan’s presentation will give an overview of the many challenges in developing software systems, including large-scale monitoring and control systems and processing of terabytes of radio astronomy data in near real-time running in High Performance Computing (HPC) platforms at the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre and the design of the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) radio telescope.
