Round Table Discussion on the use of Digital Technology
CPD seminar by Adam Selvey of Ramboll / SDE & CIBSE West Midlands
As we move our working practices from traditional methods into the digital age, having more rich data/information, there are growing expectations being placed on the construction industry to deliver a better built environment. However, in this technological revolution the gap between expectation and reality can often be divergent to one another. In the Building Services industry, in the area of co-ordination, there are aspirations that the 3D environment will provide a 100% clash-free model. Often those responsible for clash detection will run automated routines to demonstrate a level of co-ordination. In this round table discussion the CIBSE Society of Digital Engineers aims to test the assumption definition of 100% clash free and debate with CIBSE members their expectation. Looking at each RIBA work stage we will debate:
-What we are aiming to co-ordinate.
- Co-ordination responsibilities.
- What is a clash?
- Can the design and installation team ever be 100% clash free and does it provide value at that stage.
The debate will be framed and led by SDE steering group members Joseph Lally, Digital Engineering Systems Leader at Crown House Technologies and Adam Selvey, Design Excellence Director at Ramboll.
The ultimate aim and output of this session and similar ones is to contribute to the production of CIBSE guidance documents on this topic, and this event represents the perfect opportunity to have your voice heard on the subject.
