The Society of Light and Lighting (SLL) is delighted to announce the Young Lighter of the Year 2014 finalists. Each shortlisted entrant submitted a 3000 word paper marked by the 5 judges, who then selected four finalists.

Each finalist will present at LuxLive2014, at the London ExCel Centre. Following this, one of them will be awarded the SLL Young Lighter of the Year 2014 at the Lux Awards in London on 20 November 2014.

The competition, now in its 20th year, provides a unique platform for young lighters and is open to all those under 30. The competition gives the young lighters an opportunity to write a paper on a lighting subject, hone their presentation skills in front of an invited panel of judges, and raise their profile within the industry.

The initial call for papers went out in January and entries were received on all lighting related subjects, the lighters were then shortlisted on the quality and talent shown in their abstracts and their video presentations. Last year’s winner, Rachael Nicholls AMSLL, was awarded the prize for her presentation, ‘Task Lighting at the Hospital Bed,’ in front of the Lux Awards Dinner attendees at the Westminster Park Plaza Hotel.

The Finalists announced are:

  • Janna Aronson, Lichtkompetenz GmbH
  • James Duff, Arup
  • Katerina Konsta, Atkins Global
  • Veronika Labancova, Isometrix

All finalists receive a cash prize along with a year’s membership to SLL.
