Regional History

In 1927 branches opened in Manchester and London , then in 1933 our branch was formed and was known then as the ‘Liverpool & District Branch' later to be expanded to the 'Merseyside and North Wales Region', this coincided with the publication of the first monthly IHVE Journal.

Between 1976-78 the Royal Charter was drawn up by the Privy Council on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II for the establishment of CIBS with the amalgamation of the IHVE and the IES (Illuminating Engineering Society). At this stage the new institution was not permitted to include the word 'Engineer' in its title. This came later with a revision to the Royal Charter to create an institution embracing the whole of building services - The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers.
