Consultation on changes to DECs in England & Wales
Posted: 13 February 2015
On Wednesday 11th February the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG) issued a consultation document which reviews the role and methodology for Display Energy Certificates (DECs). Whilst it is presented as an exercise in streamlining processes and reducing burdens, it is proposing significant changes to the DEC regime which may have the effect of reducing the levels of information about the efficient operation of public buildings.
This is a four week consultation, closing on 11th March 2015. This leaves little time for the current administration to analyse the consultation responses, prepare its response and publish any changes to the Energy Performance of Buildings Regulations. However, given the uncertainty surrounding the result of the forthcoming election, the government may wish to act very quickly after the consultation period closes.
