Consultation on new Ecodesign Requirements for Lighting Products

The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) are seeking views on a proposal to update the ecodesign requirements for lighting products from 2023 and 2027. It is proposing to require that lamps offered for sale in Great Britain have a minimum energy performance of 120 lm/W by 2023 and 140lm/W by 2027. The proposal also highlights some exemptions.

Remembering Terry Wyatt FCIBSE

CIBSE is saddened to hear of the death of Professor Terry Wyatt, CIBSE Past President (2003-4). An inspiration to many in the industry, Terry was at the forefront of sustainable engineering before it was fashionable and a pioneer of novel engineering approaches to reduce energy consumption, carbon emissions and the impact of engineering services, whilst always looking to deliver buildings that performed. His work was not just building related, as he was also involved in the ventilation systems for the Mersey tunnels.

The Building Advisory Committee: Inaugural Meeting

The first meeting of the Building Advisory Committee (BAC) took place on 20 December 2022. The BAC was established under the Building Safety Act, 2022 as part of the Government’s reforms of building safety. The reforms are designed to create lasting change and make it clear how buildings should be constructed, maintained, and made safe.

Scott Kluger named SLL Young Lighter 2022

Scott Kluger, Senior Daylight Designer at Hoare Lea was named SLL Young Lighter 2022 following the competition finals in December. Scott's winning project focuses on daylight harvesting to optimise lighting performance. Now in its 28th year, the SLL Young Lighter 2022 finals were held online on 15 December 2022.

Responsible Outdoor Lighting at Night (ROLAN) Manifesto for Lighting Professionals

The SLL along with the other ROLAN conference Founding Partners have signed the Responsible Outdoor Lighting at Night Manifesto for Lighting Professionals. The other Founding Partners include the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD), International Dark-Sky Association (IDA), Illuminating Engineering Society (IES), illume, Institution of Lighting Professionals and the Lighting Industry Association (LIA).
