Technical Report Interview

Once your Technical Report has been approved, the next stage of the process is to attend a Technical Report Interview.  There are no set interview dates, interviews are held as required when there are a sufficient number of candidates.

Once the interview date period is set, CIBSE will be in touch to confirm your availability and to set a date/time for your interview.  Interviews are held at the CIBSE Office. If you are based outside of the UK, video conference interviews can be arranged.

Format of the Technical Report Interview

There will be two interviewers, both of whom are senior members of the Institution. The interview will last for approximately 1 hour.  At the interview you will be invited to make a brief presentation on your Technical Report, after which the interviewers will ask any questions they may have.  You can view the criteria that you will be assessed against in our Interview Documentation

Your interview will be in two parts:

  1. An assessment of your Technical Report - you will be invited to make a 15-20 minute presentation of your submission, your assessors will ask questions based on your report and presentation. The interviewers will be looking for you to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the fundamental principles of engineering.

SHORT BREAK (During the break your assessors will determine if you have sufficiently demonstrated the judging criteria in order to progress to the second part of the interview, the Professional Review.)

  1. Professional Review Interview - a follow-up interview to your previous Competence Review and it will therefore focus on your experience gained during the intervening period in line with the relevant competence criteria. There is no need to prepare a presentation for this section of the interview.

After the interview, the interviewers will decide on a recommendation to the next CIBSE Members' and Registration Panel (this date will be confirmed in the interview).  You will be notified of your result by email within two weeks of the Panel meeting.
