When anyone says “Charity begins at home” they are referring to looking after their own, their family, their loved ones, their inner circle and being kind to others. But what if there is nobody there to help in that time of need, when you need some support or financial assistance? What then?
At CIBSE, we recognise the need to look after our members and former members, their families, their loved ones and pride ourselves in helping, especially through sickness, bereavement or financial hardship through the Benevolent Fund.
As a non-for-profit organisation, CIBSE relies on sponsorship and support from our members, plus non-members alike, which allows us to hold fantastic events around the region. The CIBSE Western Australia Chapter, Chaired by Peter Whalley hold a very successful and popular Christmas Luncheon every December. This event has grown in popularity over the years, through the hard work and dedication of the WA Chapter Committee.
Over the past three years, surplus funds from the annual WA Chapter Christmas Luncheon, have accumulated. Previously each year, any surplus funds have been donated to various local charities and the Benevolent Fund.
Peter Whalley, CIBSE WA Chapter Chair was very pleased to recently announce: “On behalf of the WA Chapter CIBSE committee representing our local members and with solid industry support from our local sponsors, a donation of $10,000 has been made available to the CIBSE Benevolent fund. The funds have been generated from additional sponsorship funds over the last couple of years from our annual functions, and the local chapter committee are keen to see these funds used by the benevolent fund to assist our members in times of need”.
Ian Small, the ANZ Benevolent Fund Almoner was on hand to receive the cheque at the recent WA Chapter seminar in February, 2018.
“It’s fantastic that the CIBSE ANZ region can present this cheque of $10,000 to the benevolent fund, which will make a key difference to those who need it, the most. It’s a testament to the voluntary network of the great committees we have within the region and the hard work that goes on behind the scenes. It was a joy to personally meet the WA Chapter committee and see first-hand the great work the team is producing. The CIBSE ANZ region will continue to donate funds raised specifically for the benevolent fund, plus local charities annually.” Paul Angus, CIBSE ANZ Chair.
