Mechanical Design Engineer
Your new company A well-established organisation with over 15 years of experience in commercial, industrial, and residential projects, typically ranging from £2 million to £9 million in value. Your new role As a Design Engineer, you will be responsible for creating and producing working design drawings for handover to contracts for delivery. You will maintain a close working relationship with the contracts team from start to finish and collaborate with the design team from inception to completion. Your role will involve maintaining and updating all design-related information, issues, and coordination with the project team. You will also attend design meetings with clients and use design software such as AutoCAD LT, Bentley Hevacomp, CIBSE, and BSRIA. What you'll need to succeed Strong understanding of client specifications and the ability to provide appropriate advice.Experience in establishing customer needs, considering cost and environmental value engineering. Knowledge of current and forthcoming industry legislation and standards. Ability to produce detailed design specifications, technical submittals, design development drawings/sketches, BWC information, construction drawings, and as-fitted drawings. Clear understanding of how designed systems will operate. Effective communication skills for attending design meetings with clients. Proficiency in design software/guides such as AutoCAD LT, Bentley Hevacomp, CIBSE, BSRIA, etc. Ability to prioritise matters, follow up on issues, and successfully negotiate with suppliers, sub-contractors, and clients. Experience in conducting site surveys and delivering design information and drawings within agreed timescales. Team player with the ability to actively contribute to meetings and raise concerns at their onset. Your new role Your new role as Mechanical Building Services Engineer will involve the preparation of mechanical building service designs, engineering drawings, specifications and supervision of mechanical building service installations across the University estate. What you'll need to succeed Significant post-qualification employment experience Experience of working within engineering/construction project teams. Skills and abilities Ability to project-manage clients and contractors, including the briefing process. Excellent planning skills and the ability to deliver to tight deadlines Practical, with the ability to develop an engineering solution to new mechanical installation requirements Ability to understand the requirements of non-construction professionals and anticipating their needs. Highly professional with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with project clients, customers and colleagues. Demonstrable ability to manage multiple priorities within conflicting timescales Excellent oral and written communication skills Excellent service-oriented approach to the delivery of projects for customers/clients Proven ability to manage budgets effectively Competent in the use of AutoCAD; good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages Training A willingness to undertake future training as required. A willingness to adopt new procedures as and when required. Evidence of continual development in line with industry developments Qualifications HND in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Building Services ILM level 2 in Management or equivalent, or willing to undertake this. Accredited qualification in a specialised mechanical discipline eg. Gas, LEV, Refrigeration etc. NEBOSH General Certificate or willingness to undertake this Flexible and willing to work out of hours if required Full Driving Licence required What you'll get in return Grade 6 / £34,866 - £45,163. 44 days inclusive of 8 Bank holidays and 6 University closure days.
