Your new company Your new company is working on some of the most complex MEP designs in the UK and are very proud of their technical ability and the quality of services they deliver for their designs, working on RIBA 2-4 and consulting through 5-7. The office is located in either Leicester or Birmingham however, you can be flexible with how often you attend the office, so if you live a little further away to Leicester or Birmingham, then please still apply. This company is currently working with United Utilities, MoD, Public Health England, DEFRA, and NW Universities. Projects range from £50m - £600m Your new role In your new role, you will be working as an Associate Electrical or Mechanical Engineer on highly complex and technical MoD projects, including Shooting Ranges, Bespoke Training Facilities, UK Defence Facilities and DEOP (Defence Estates Optimise Programme). As well as MoD, you will be working on highly detailed labs, including Public Health England and Defence labs with both clean rooms and Cat 4 Labs. This role will be highly technical and requires the right candidate to be skilled in conceptual and detailed design.What you'll need to succeed To succeed in an application for interview, you will need to either working at similar level or ready to step up to this level with design experience either within a consultancy or contractor. Project Building Services Engineer (Electrical)
A Minor Works team is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to support the delivery of small to medium‑scale capital, refurbishment and upgrade projects. The role involves producing detailed electrical designs, technical documentation and supporting project delivery across multiple sites. Projects typically range from £10k to £1m, with responsibilities spanning design, coordination, compliance and stakeholder engagement. This temporary assignment is suitable for an engineer with strong electrical building services experience and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment. Key ResponsibilitiesElectrical Design & Technical Delivery Produce electrical building services designs, including LV distribution, small power, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarms, security systems, ICT/data layouts and associated schematics. Prepare technical drawings, specifications, schedules, load calculations and design documentation. Ensure compliance with relevant standards, including BS 7671, IET Wiring Regulations, CIBSE guidance, and statutory requirements. Support feasibility studies, surveys, technical reviews and early‑stage design assessments. Project Coordination Deliver design work across the full project lifecycle, from concept through to completion. Coordinate with mechanical, architectural, structural and contractor teams. Attend design meetings, technical workshops and site surveys as required. Provide technical input to procurement processes, tender assessments and contractor submissions. Quality, Compliance & Safety Support CDM compliance and produce or contribute to design risk assessments. Review contractor RAMS, drawings, O&M information and electrical test certificates. Maintain accurate documentation and ensure high‑quality design governance. Stakeholder Engagement Liaise effectively with internal stakeholders, end users, project managers and external consultants. Communicate design issues, risks and progress updates clearly and professionally. Represent the engineering function in meetings, providing expert advice and recommendations. Essential Requirements Demonstrable experience in electrical building services design (consultancy, client‑side or estates environment). Ability to produce detailed design documentation, drawings, and calculations. Proficiency in AutoCAD (Revit beneficial). Strong understanding of BS 7671, CIBSE standards and relevant building regulations. Experience managing multiple projects concurrently and working independently. Excellent communication and coordination skills. Desirable Experience working on refurbishment or live operational environments. Previous exposure to minor works or projects within complex estate settings. Knowledge of delivering projects within the £10k-£1m value range.
