Mechanical Design Engineer

Your new company Tetra Tech, a global leader in high-end consulting and engineering services, is growing its Building Services team in Leicester and is looking for a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join their expanding group. Your new role As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will support the design and delivery of building services projects, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to provide high-quality mechanical engineering solutions. Your responsibilities will include: Designing mechanical systems (HVAC, public health, etc.) from concept to completion Producing detailed design calculations, specifications, and technical drawings Supporting senior engineers with site surveys, inspections, and construction stage duties Coordinating with clients, architects, and other engineering disciplines Ensuring compliance with current building regulations and sustainability standards Participating in project meetings and contributing to technical discussions Developing your technical skills with guidance from experienced engineers What you'll need to succeed Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related field Experience working on mechanical building services projects within a consultancy or contractor environment Familiarity with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Hevacomp, IES, and NBS Strong communication and teamwork skills A proactive and solution-focused mindset Full UK driving licence (preferred) What you'll get in return This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your career with one of the world's leading engineering consultancies. Projects range from £50m - £600m Your new role In your new role, you will be working as an Associate Electrical or Mechanical Engineer on highly complex and technical MoD projects, including Shooting Ranges, Bespoke Training Facilities, UK Defence Facilities and DEOP (Defence Estates Optimise Programme). As well as MoD, you will be working on highly detailed labs, including Public Health England and Defence labs with both clean rooms and Cat 4 Labs. Our client is a privately owned, award-winning building services consultancy established in 1987. They have experienced steady growth by providing first class project delivery and now consist of a team of 50 multi-disciplinary Building Services and Sustainability Engineers. They are looking for an Intermediate/Senior Electrical Engineer to join their busy electrical team to work on some of the UKs largest high end residential and hotel projects. Building Services Experience required: Low Voltage (LV) Distribution General and Emergency Lighting General LV Power Access Control, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) and Intruder Alarms Fire Detection and Alarm Lightning and Surge Protection Systems The role will involve: Complete survey work and site inspections Undertake design calculations using various methods, from hand calculations to software-based modelling Prepare drawn information Write technical specification Write technical reports Problem solve, initiate solutions typically identified by Senior management Support the Senior Management Team with client relationship management on projects they are working on Take responsibility for their own professional and personal development Mentor junior engineers in the team. In order to be considered for this role you will have: Minimum 3-6 years building services consultancy experience A degree qualification - Electrical or building services (Chartered or working towards).
