Senior Electrical Design Engineer (Building Services)
Main Purpose of role: Using sound knowledge of electrical building services, provide support and line management to the electrical team to progress multiple projects on all drawing production including schematics and engineering calculations within agreed timescales. Principal Tasks and Responsibilities: Business Operation and Development To have future business development in mind at all times, maintain good relationship with all industry contacts and promoting the business where opportunities arise. Ensure that all projects remain in budget, monitor whether additional fees are appropriate and control team workload to meet the schedules. To actively assist management to maintain an effective business by raising potential threats and suggesting remedies to overcome. Look for potential options for new business and additional fees and clear with line manager for approval. Design To actively review, in conjunction with the process owners, the design process Produce schematics, elevations, details in AutoCAD/Revit which meet engineering directives, UK engineering standards, CDM regulations and Whitecode drawing and quality procedures Produce and check engineering calculations as required Support the team with project checking/reviews; resolving issues in order to maintain timeframes and quality compliance co-ordinate drawings/CAD/Revit with other disciplines, having an understanding of other engineering principles Maintain a working knowledge of appropriate engineering and industry standards Liaise concisely and professionally with external members of the design team and clients on technical subjects whether at client meetings, workshops, project review meetings Respond accurately, concisely and correctly to design team and contractor queries including RFIs, tech subs etc in line with WCL approved products Communication Ability to apply initiative to seek additional information from relevant sources to solve engineering problems To be familiar and keep up to date with British standards, industry guides and approved documents etc. To assist with other AutoCAD/Revit work when workload requires Ability to liaise concisely and professionally with external members of the design team and client on technical subjects by phone and email Maintain regular progress conversations with team leader Respond accurately, concisely and correctly to design team and contractor queries including RFIs, tech subs etc in line with WCL approved products Attend and contribute confidently at client meetings and workshops To work towards professional accreditation in a proactive manner and discuss any assistance required with team leader and / or senior management Management To work with the team leader to provide line management and support to the electrical team To monitor the team and individual performance flagging issues to directors or HR General Complete timesheets daily and accurately To maintain a high standard of probity in professional, personal and financial matters Maintaining good relations with colleagues and external partners To work flexibly and efficiently to maintain the highest professional standards To ensure you maintain your continued professional development To ensure you effective manage the Health and Safety of yourself, your team and clients Ensure that the highest level of commercial confidentiality is maintained To act in accordance with Whitecode's policies and procedures To undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required Our mission is to reduce our carbon footprint and promote sustainable practices in all aspects of our business What's on offer at Whitecode Consulting Competitive salary Bonus Scheme Annual Leave Company Pension Scheme Sponsorship for external studies Professional subscriptions Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) Health Care (Vitality) Social Events Birthday Bonus Flexible Working Cycle to Work Scheme Eye Care Voucher The job description sets out the main duties of the post at the date when it was drawn up. Senior Mechanical Engineer

The Role: They are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior or Principal Mechanical Engineer to join their dynamic team. This role focuses on the refurbishment, upgrade, and decarbonisation of existing buildings, and requires a practical, client-facing engineer who thrives in both technical and on-site environments. You’ll play a key role in the delivery of mechanical engineering services from feasibility through to detailed design and construction. What you’ll be doing: Lead mechanical engineering design for projects involving HVAC, domestic water services, and renewable energy systems in existing buildings. Conduct condition surveys, asset assessments, and lifecycle costing. Deliver decarbonisation analysis, energy audits, and retrofit strategy development. Produce technical reports, specifications, and feasibility studies. Undertake detailed engineering calculations to inform design and decision-making. Liaise with contractors, clients, and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. Fulfil Contract Administrator duties including managing valuations, contractor performance, and change control procedures. Apply knowledge of contract management, especially JCT contracts. Conduct regular site inspections, oversee commissioning, and support issue resolution. Collaborate closely with electrical engineers, architects, sustainability specialists, and quantity surveyors. Mentor and support the development of junior engineering staff. Qualifications: Building Services Engineering qualification Actively working towards chartership (IMechE or CIBSE preferred) Experience: Proven experience in mechanical design, delivery, and project leadership on existing building projects. Familiarity with maintenance contracts, including performance monitoring and lifecycle planning. Demonstrated experience writing and contributing to procurement documentation for public or private sector projects. Proficiency in writing technical reports, developing specifications, drawings, calculations and conducting feasibility studies. Extensive experience working within the social housing sector, as well as across a broad range of public sector environments, including educational facilities (e.g. schools and academies), healthcare buildings, and commercial properties. This includes a strong understanding of the specific challenges, compliance requirements, and stakeholder engagement needs associated with these settings—such as budgetary constraints, phased works in occupied premises, and alignment with government or local authority frameworks and funding criteria. Experience in asset data collection, including on-site surveys to identify and log mechanical and electrical systems, capturing equipment condition, operational status, and compliance with relevant standards to support lifecycle planning, maintenance strategies, and investment decisions. Knowledge of construction risks, including how to identify and manage them effectively across project stages. Experienced in reporting resource and financial information to Partners and senior management, ensuring visibility on project performance and forecasts. Knowledge: Thorough understanding of building services systems including HVAC, hot and cold water, and controls. Working knowledge of UK Building Regulations, CIBSE guides, BREEAM, and other sustainability frameworks. Experience with maintenance contract planning and service level agreements.
