Your new role As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will take responsibility for producing and delivering mechanical building services designs from concept stage through to project completion. You'll work alongside experienced engineers and CAD technicians within a supportive and technically strong team.Key responsibilities include: Producing mechanical building services designs, calculations, specifications and drawings Leading or supporting mechanical design packages across multiple projects Coordinating with internal design teams, CAD specialists and external consultants Attending site surveys, inspections and design meetings Ensuring designs comply with UK Building Regulations, industry standards and client expectations Managing your own workload while contributing to wider team delivery Projects you will work on: Commercial offices and workplace fit‑outs Industrial and manufacturing facilities Education buildings Healthcare environments Hotels and leisure developments Residential and mixed‑use schemes MOD and secure‑infrastructure projects requiring robust mechanical engineering solutions These sectors reflect the consultancy's established capability within the UK construction industry. Role: Undertake mechanical design work consisting of surveys, design, drawings and specifications for projects. Work in conjunction with other Client design team members as required as part of an overall project team. Ensure the design and maintenance of building systems meets legislative and health and safety requirements Specify products, equipment and installation standards relating to mechanical services suitable for the costing and installation by Contractors. Take the lead role for the company, where necessary, on projects. Prepare budget costs for schemes and maintain these during the design stage of a project. Issue a pre-tender estimate to the QS (if part of the project remit). Obtain assistance from Associate Engineers where required. Comment on mechanical services valuations during the construction process. Attend project design meetings, technical meetings, Value Engineering Workshops, Risk Workshops etc as required by the project. Attend site as part of the construction phase activities of projects and participate in site meetings. Undertake snagging, preparation of snagging lists, valuations (if required) and end of defects inspections as required. We utilise a web and phone based Snagging App software called Insite Teams for snagging and defects inspections. When undertaking valuations where we are acting as Lead Consultant these are normally undertaken on a monthly basis and include the preparation of Certificates and Valuation paperwork for submission to the Client to allow payment authorisation. Undertake surveys and reports for the company including Feasibility studies, and Condition Surveys and generate reports meeting the company report format. Undertake presentations for projects relating to mechanical services. Advise Clients and other designers on energy use and conservation in a range of buildings and sites, aiming to minimise the environmental impact and reduce the carbon footprint. Work in conjunctin with the Junior/Intermediate Engineers in the production of base calculations using Cymap Building Services software (MEPWorx). Utilise Cymap Building Services software for steady state calculations. Utilise TAS software/engage with an external modelling company for thermal modelling in conjunction with other members of staff where required for projects needing these calculations. Assist in developing/updating a standard set of output documents and calculations for tender issue. Undertake tender reviews and provide recommendation reports for the appointment of Contractors. This shall be either in conjunction with other Design Team members where required. Work in conjunction with other staff members on design work as part of an overall project team. In particular work with the Junior and Intermediate members of staff to support the project and to assist in their development. Champion the use of BIM, Revit and TAS for mechanical and electrical services design and drawing work in the office where required for projects. Consider with the other Directors, the use of new working methods/technology to reduce design times and to improve the overall quality of the output documents. Assist with implementation Promote the business at events and functions where representing the company. Participate in the Staff Review process which is undertaken on an annual basis. Participate in the health and review process within the company and adhere to the Health and Safety procedures in place. Work attire shall be smart, suitable for business. When attending meetings on construction sites then more casual clothing is acceptable. PPE is provided (hi-vis vest, hard hat, gloves and glasses) and site boots shall be purchased by the individual and reimbursed via expenses. Complete the company timesheets system on a weekly basis to record time worked on specific project tasks. Develop Client relationships with the aim to obtain repeat business for the company. Undertake basic calculations on cable sizing, lighting selections etc. Undertake Electrical design work consisting of surveys, design, drawings and specifications for projects. Work in conjunction with other Client design team members as required as part of an overall project team. Attend project design meetings, technical meetings, Value Engineering Workshops, Risk Workshops etc as required by the project in conjunction with Senior Engineers.
