Senior Mechichanical engineer
A leading multidisciplinary consultancy is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their Manchester-based design team. This is a high-trust, autonomous role reporting directly to the Head of Design, offering the chance to work across complex projects in the healthcare, leisure, commercial, residential, and industrial sectors.You'll be joining a collaborative, technically driven environment where peer reviews are a large part of the workload in a team size of 10-12 (Design team with a wider 60+ technical group). What You'll Be Doing Lead mechanical design and technical delivery across a range of UK and international projects Conduct peer reviews and support junior engineers with technical guidance Collaborate with electrical counterparts and validation teams to troubleshoot and optimise building performance Engage in client-side conversations, offering clear, confident advice and technical insight Work on bids and proposals with Tier 1 contractors and advisory groups Uphold compliance, sustainability, and value engineering principles across all workstreams Operate with autonomy while contributing to daily team meetings and shared design reviews What You'll Bring 6-7+ years' experience in mechanical building services design Strong understanding of UK Building Regulations and sector-specific standards Experience in healthcare, leisure, or commercial sectors preferred - but not essential Confidence in peer reviewing and managing technical outputs A "safe pair of hands" - self-sufficient, transparent, and not afraid to ask questions Collaborative mindset and strong communication skills Familiarity with software such as Revit, AutoCAD, Hevacomp, IES, and relevant design tools Culture & Projects Projects range from £4M-£5M in value, with recent work including high-profile commercial developments, healthcare refurbishments, and confidential international commissions. Senior or Intermediate MEP Quantity Surveyor
My client are a young, dynamic, London based leading Main Contractor who have been operating for over 20 years. As a Main Contractor, they construct new buildings, alter, refurbish and remodel existing buildings, and fit out interior spaces. With a Company Turnover of circa £160 mil, they employ around 160 staff across the business. Due to growth, they are now seeing an MEP Quantity Surveyor to join their team on a permanent basis at either a Intermediate or Senior level. THE JOB – Senior or Intermediate MEP Quantity Surveyor Monday – Friday / 8am – 5pm Based in their Central London Office, you will be working in a team of 3 M&E Quantity Surveyors, You will be tendering the MEP packages on new projects and assisting in managing sub-contractor variation accounts. Most projects are based in central London and across multiple sectors including CAT A and B office fit-out, high end residential, schools, hotel and leisure sector along with private clients. Projects are procured on a single stage, two stage or negotiated basis, and are a mix of traditional design and design and build projects. Combined MEP package contract values typically range from circa £3m to £10m in value. The candidate will demonstrate competence/ experience in the following key areas: Experience in tendering MEP packages on a single stage and two stage basis. Demonstrate a good knowledge of the tender information that needs to be provided to sub-contractors at tender stage to ensure robust tender returns. Demonstrate ability to work to a procurement tender event schedule to achieve key procurement programme dates. Ability to formulate detailed project specific pricing schedules based on design documentation, programme and logistical requirements of project. Demonstrate a good understanding of the key risks inherent in a project including design risk, CDP requirements, spatial coordination, acoustic requirements, fire strategy, requirements. Demonstrate a good understanding of project requirements and compliances with specific BREEAM, WELL, Wired Score and Security Needs Assessment targets. Understanding and identification of potential design information deficiencies within consultant design packages and process for raising these to the design team for clarification. Demonstrate a sound understanding of the interfaces of MEPH packages with other associated trade packages and the impact of changes an/ or interfaces with these packages. Demonstrate a good knowledge of tender analysis process to ensure robust interrogation of sub-contractor tender returns, to identify and rectify errors in tender returns, ensuring full compliance with tender requirements, including chairing of mid and post tender meetings and issue of detailed minutes. Ability to format detailed recommendation reports for sub-contractor appointment. Good knowledge of programme and sequencing requirements and the impact of this on sub-contract tenders and subsequent variation accounts. Experience in managing sub-contractor variation accounts and applications including valuation and accurate reporting of costs including chairing account meetings and issuing detailed minutes. Experience in managing upstream change order process including accurate cost reporting on cost/ value basis. Experience in reviewing initial client cost plans against historical and current cost plan models and identifying accuracy of, or shortfalls within the cost plans that need to be addressed. This would be by a combination of reviewing the clients historical project £/ft2 database and from the candidates own knowledge of package costs and rates. Experience in undertaking and driving value engineering exercises and ability to advise on potential MEPH alternatives for design team consideration. Your new company The services of Hays have been retained by our client, the Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE) to recruit a Project Manager / Building Services Compliance Officer. Based from their head office on Adelaide Street, Belfast, within their Asset Management Building Safety team. This organisation has more than 85,000 properties and employs 3,000 members of staff throughout NI. Your new role Responsible to the Building Services Manager for ensuring the NIHE is fully compliant with its statutory and regulatory duties to its customers, employees, and third parties and to assist in the management and co-ordination of the planned and cyclical servicing and maintenance programme for the specialist mechanical and electrical equipment in NIHE Offices, Depots, High Rise Residential Blocks and Hostels. Some of the key duties include: To contribute to all aspects of the Building Services Function of the Building Safety Department, to ensure NIHE's compliance with its statutory and legislative Health and Safety obligations. To assist in the development and implementation of strategies, policies and procedures to ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations, particularly in relation to Heating Systems, Electrical Safety, Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Detector and Lifting Equipment (including servicing and LOLER) across the NIHE stock portfolio.
