Senior Mechanical Engineer

Role: This role requires a specialist pharmaceutical/life sciences Senior Mechanical Engineer, to spearhead energy efficiency projects and be the go-to person for design advice and lead projects. As the industry experiences greater regulations on the manufacturing process, the team are seeking an individual to bring experience on how to deliver and manage technical projects to support the growth of the business. The main responsibilities in this role will be to be ensure high quality delivery of energy-focused global pharmaceutical and life sciences HVAC engineering solutions, while also guiding others to ensure that design deliverables meet consistent standards and best practice. There will not be any direct line management responsibility for this role. The person in this role will act as a subject matter expert guiding the engineering team on process, quality and technical delivery. They also work closely with the senior leadership and sales teams growing the business and leading on consultative technical discussions with both new and existing clients. Responsibilities: Technical Leadership & Delivery (80% of the role): Most of the time will be working in the capacity of a consultant both externally and internally, influencing design and recommendations, representing best practice and promoting technical excellence in HVAC design and build within the pharmaceutical and life sciences industry and within the team. Understanding client needs, formulating innovative solutions, and presenting technical information logically and compellingly. Sharing demonstrable knowledge (such as recent used/test cases) both on build and design on a regular basis with the team. Developing bespoke solutions and innovative designs to meet client needs aligning with cutting-edge technical approaches. Facilitating & providing technical expertise on Energy Kaizen Leadership and HVAC systems. Reporting on engineering KPIs by reviewing the data collection phases and quality of the technical work. Applying expertise in engineering complex GMP compliant HVAC systems for building services. Leading stakeholder discussions with clients on the technical delivery and progress. Working on client site to facilitate projects (both nationally and internationally). Working closely with the Engineering Manager to develop the technical expertise. Responsible for adoption of technical best practice and adoption by the engineering team to maintain consistency and quality of deliverables. Supporting the Business's ISO 9001 status for consistent quality delivery. Business Operations (10% of the role): Working closely and collaborating with the senior leadership team, operations team, and sales team to ensure effective operations to support current and future client engagements, by helping to develop project resources. Participating in weekly engineering team management meetings and taking responsibility for delivering agreed actions and reporting. Supporting business risk management through identification and mitigation activities. Assisting in a culture of innovation and excellence and maintaining global subject matter expert status. Supporting Business Growth (10% of the role): Collaborating with the senior leadership team, and wider teams to implement short and long-term plans, focusing on value propositions. Support of subject matter expert status by maintaining industry leading knowledge related to the pharmaceutical/life sciences industry. Identifying improvement areas across the business Attending conferences on HVAC systems and energy efficiency.

Mechanical Engineer
Our client is a privately owned building services consultancy established in 1987. They have experienced steady growth by providing first class project delivery and now consist of a team of 50 multi-disciplinary Building Services and Sustainability Engineers. They are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to work on some of the UK’s largest high end residential and hotel projects. Key Accountabilities Produce detailed design calculations and preparation of design drawings, specifications, and information. Assist in the practical training of Graduate and Technician Engineers. Managing a team of junior engineers. Receive brief from Principal Engineer about initial design information. Produce all design information as outlined in the Project Management Plan. Ensure that all calculations and drawings have been properly checked. Liaise with internal and external Design Team, Client and Contractors. Assemble all calculations, drawings, correspondence, and other project documents. Consider financial implications in producing design option. Maintain good communication with Clients, Design Team and Contractors to meet the Company’s standards in customer care. Ensure client satisfaction in project delivery with a view to obtaining repeat business. Maintain and develop an understanding of the key software. You will need to have the below 3 years’+ Experience of Mechanical building services design. Experience in Residential project detail design (Stage 4). Experience of attending client meetings. To be considered for this role applicants will have: 2 years REVIT experience in a commercial working environment. Using Revit MEP to create complex 3D building systems and geometries for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire alarm, IT, containment and fire protection systems. Working from Engineer’s mark-up's and sketches under minimum supervision to produce MEP drawings in Revit MEP and CAD as appropriate to each project. Demonstrate a knowledge of the design of resilient MV/LV electrical distribution systems to provide concurrently maintainable and fault tolerant systems. Competent in the design of LV distribution systems with a working knowledge of BS7671 and IEC 60364 and in the use of Trimble Electrical Designer 2D. Competent to undertake internal lighting designs and in the use of DIALux. Competent in the use of Revit to produce 2D SLDs and 3D models. Competent in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong attention to detail, collaboration, time management and problem-solving skills. Critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving team environment. Preferred: Experience of electrical design on projects in Finland, Germany, Iceland or Italy. Knowledge of MV/LV power system analysis and competent in the use of Etap.
