Senior/principal Mechanical engineer
A leading UK Building Services & Sustainability Consultancy is looking to appoint a talented Senior / Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing Leeds team. This firm is recognised for delivering forward‑thinking M&E design, low‑carbon solutions and high‑quality engineering consultancy across all sectors of the built environment, operating from multiple UK offices including Leeds.This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanical engineer who is passionate about technical excellence, low‑carbon design, innovation, and collaborative project delivery. Role Responsibilities Lead and develop mechanical building services designs across a wide range of sectors (commercial, healthcare, education, industrial, residential and mixed‑use). Deliver feasibility studies, mechanical calculations, reports, specifications and detailed design packages. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including electrical, sustainability, BIM and cost consultancy. Mentor junior engineers and support the ongoing technical development of the mechanical team. Engage directly with clients, architects and project stakeholders to support successful project delivery. Ensure mechanical designs meet all current legislation, industry standards and best‑practice guidelines. Contribute to low‑carbon, energy‑efficient and sustainable design strategies, aligned with modern building performance expectations. Support projects from early concept through to building completion and handover. About You Strong experience in mechanical building services design within a consultancy environment. Able to lead projects independently or take ownership of major design work packages. Skilled in mechanical design software including IES, Revit, AutoCAD and specification tools. Strong understanding of UK Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance, sustainability and low‑carbon engineering principles. Excellent communication skills with confidence in facing clients and coordinating with design teams. Degree‑qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering; working toward or holding IEng / CEng is advantageous.
