Damp and Mould Surveyor

Location: OxfordRate: £300 - £350 a day Title: Damp and Mould Surveyor Job Purpose:We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialist Damp and Mould Building Surveyor to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and managing issues related to damp, mould, and condensation in residential and commercial properties. This role is critical in ensuring the health, safety, and comfort of occupants, as well as maintaining the integrity of the building fabric. Key Responsibilities: Conduct detailed inspections and surveys of properties to diagnose causes of damp, mould, and condensation. Prepare comprehensive reports with findings, photographic evidence, and recommendations for remedial action. Advise on appropriate treatment methods and oversee the implementation of remedial works. Liaise with tenants, landlords, contractors, and internal teams to ensure effective communication and resolution of issues. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of treatments and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. Maintain accurate records and ensure all work is carried out in accordance with relevant legislation and best practice. Provide expert advice and training to colleagues and stakeholders on damp and mould prevention and management. Support disrepair claims and legal proceedings with technical evidence and expert witness reports when required. Essential Skills & Experience: Proven experience in building surveying with a strong focus on damp and mould diagnostics. In-depth knowledge of building pathology, moisture ingress, ventilation systems, and remedial treatments. Excellent report writing and communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload. Strong understanding of relevant legislation, including the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS). Proficient in using surveying tools and software. Qualifications: Knowledge of Building Pathology Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS, CIOB) is desirable. Valid UK driving licence (if site visits are required). Desirable Attributes: Experience working in social housing or local authority environments. Awareness of the impact of damp and mould on vulnerable tenants and a commitment to safeguarding. Knowledge of energy efficiency and retrofit measures. What to do next. Intermediate Mechanical Engineer

ROLE OVERVIEW: The Intermediate Mechanical Engineer will demonstrate sound skills in engineering design and be comfortable working on projects from inception to completion, able to undertake various aspects with minimal supervision. They will assist the senior staff to prepare conceptual designs of HVAC systems, pipe work systems, plant sizing and selection and calculations. The engineer will be a strong team player, keen to develop their skills, and to this end they will work closely with the senior engineers to assist with administration and coordination of projects and will undertake tasks to increase their exposure to business development and improve their understanding of financial and contractual aspects of projects in addition to constantly developing their technical knowledge. The Intermediate Mechanical Engineer will work across multiple projects at any one time and will prioritise work to ensure timely delivery. RESPONSIBILITIES: Design Support the senior staff in the design of safe, economical and reliable mechanical systems to meet the contractual scope of work and comply with the applicable standards and regulations. Develop the preparation of clear and concise drawings, specifications and product schedules to define mechanical systems. Coordinate mechanical design with other disciplines (e.g. architectural, structural, electrical) to minimise conflicts and avoid costly revisions. Check tender submissions, drawings and technical submittals to ensure quality of products and equipment are in accordance with design. Undertake site visits and monitor progress against the design with minimal supervision. Assist subcontractors to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications and resolve problems during construction. Management Monitor workload against deliverables. Assist with planning work schedules to meet project programmes. Provide regular updates to line manager. Utilise a high level of oral and written communication (report writing, in particular) to ensure clarity of communication both internally and externally. Ensure compliance with Quality Assurance procedures. Build relationships and contacts with potential sources of new work, maintain existing relationships. On occasion assist with the delivery of presentations and pitches. On occasion, and under the guidance of senior staff, manage small projects internally and externally in respect of deliverables, resources and financials. Health & Safety Demonstrate a sound understanding of the CDM Regulations, specifically the Designers’ requirements. Ensure completion of all risk assessment documentation in a timely manner. Report all accidents/incidents or near misses. Always ensure adherence to all H&S requirements. Use and maintain appropriate PPE. Technical Demonstrate a growing understanding of BSRIA BG6 and RIBA stages, Part L, BREEAM and renewable technologies. Demonstrate a reasonable understanding of other MEP engineering disciplines, other than your own, sufficient to understand their impact in the overall design, and converse at a reasonable level. Ensure proficiency in the use of the following systems: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Hevacomp or IES, Outlook. Develop the ability to use AutoCAD and Revit. Undertake Continual Professional Development by reading technical journals, attending relevant IEE/CIBSE technical seminars from time to time and attending in-house seminars aimed at increasing technical and operational knowledge. Financial Develop understanding of project costing principles and control changes during project development. May on occasion assist with preparation of fee proposals. Maintain required level of utilisation and complete timesheet on a weekly basis. Project Interface Attend design team and client meetings, on occasion as the company’s only representative. Liaise with clients and others to obtain technical and operational information relating to the projects. Support senior staff with providing updates on project status to client and others. Keep project documentation up-to-date and comply with file management protocols.
