Health and Safety Advisor - Civils or Construction

I'm currently working with a well-established Tier 1 civil engineering contractor who are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join their project team on a permanent basis in the Perthshire area of Scotland. The Opportunity My client is looking for a hands-on H&S professional who can work autonomously across their operations, providing expert safety guidance and embedding a positive safety culture throughout the project workforce. You'll be working closely with the Project Health & Safety Manager, managing ISO45001 systems, and acting as the go-to safety advisor for site management and operational teams. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious H&S professional from a construction or civils background who wants to make a real impact on project delivery and safety performance. Key Responsibilities - Providing day-to-day H&S advice and support to site management and teams- Conducting site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with legislation, CDM Regs, and client standards- Managing the implementation of the project ISO45001 Safety Management System- Building strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, and the workforce- Delivering toolbox talks and chairing safety meetings- Investigating incidents and near misses, sharing lessons learnt across the business - Reviewing method statements, risk assessments, and safety documentation- Coordinating safety paperwork and record-keeping- Leading health and wellbeing initiatives- Challenging unsafe practices and driving continuous improvement What My Client Needs From You Essential Requirements: - Minimum 3 years' experience in an H&S advisory role within construction or civil engineering- Recognised Health & Safety qualification (NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent)- Valid CSCS card- Full UK driving licence- Strong IT literacy (MS Office)- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal The Right Person Will Be: - Passionate about health, safety, and wellbeing- A confident self-starter who can work on their own initiative- Detail-oriented with strong organisational skills- A natural communicator who can build rapport at all levels- Willing to challenge poor practice and lead by example- Comfortable working under pressure and meeting deadlines- A team player with a positive attitude and strong work ethic Desirable (But Not Essential): - Experience working on civil engineering projects- Professional membership (IOSH, IIRSM, or similar)- Previous experience with ISO45001 or OHSAS18001 systems- Additional H&S certifications and training What's On Offer - Permanent contract with a reputable civil engineering contractor- Competitive salary package- Opportunity to work on significant infrastructure projects- Professional development and career progression- Supportive team environment Interested? Mechanical Resident Engineer

Role: In this critical on-site role, you will act as the company's primary representative during the construction phase of a mixed use high spec residential scheme.  You will oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical building services systems — including heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, drainage, fire suppression, and related systems — ensuring full compliance with the detailed designs, specifications, relevant codes/standards, project timelines, quality expectations, and budget constraints. You will collaborate closely with contractors, subcontractors, architects, other engineering disciplines, clients, and authorities to resolve technical issues, manage variations, and deliver high-quality, sustainable building services outcomes.   Responsibilities: Serve as the lead on-site mechanical engineering authority and safeguarding the integrity of the mechanical building services design during construction. Conduct regular site inspections and monitor the installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems (e.g., air handling units, chillers, boilers, ductwork, pipework, controls/BMS, VRF systems, domestic water services, above-ground drainage, sprinklers, and specialist systems). Verify that all mechanical works comply with approved drawings, specifications, building regulations, British/European/International standards, and health & safety requirements. Review and approve (or recommend) contractor technical submittals, method statements, material samples, shop drawings, and as-built documentation related to mechanical services. Identify, document, and resolve site technical queries, design clarifications, and non-conformances promptly; coordinate with the design office to issue instructions or variations as needed. Witness key testing and commissioning activities and verify system performance against design intent and energy targets. Manage progress monitoring for mechanical packages, attend coordination and progress meetings, and contribute to overall project reporting. Liaise effectively with main contractors, M&E subcontractors, client representatives, and other stakeholders to facilitate smooth project delivery and minimize delays or disputes. Ensure robust record-keeping, including photographic evidence, test certificates, and handover documentation to support final certification and client O&M manuals. Promote and uphold the consultancy's commitment to safety, quality, and sustainable design principles on site. Requirements: Proven experience as a Resident Engineer, Clerk of Works, or Site Engineer with a strong focus on mechanical building services installation/commissioning. Previous consultancy or design office background, providing insight into design intent and coordination challenges. In-depth technical knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and building controls systems in modern commercial/residential buildings. Familiarity with UK/international building regulations, standards, and sustainability frameworks. Strong understanding of construction processes, contract administration, and change/variation management. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence contractors and resolve conflicts diplomatically. Experience on complex projects.
