Leaving a legacy in your will is a powerful way for you to give back to your profession. Your legacy can provide support to Members through the benevolent fund or help younger generations understand and get into building services engineering.

There are four main type of legacy gifts which you can consider.

  • A Pecuniary legacy - this is where you leave a fixed amount of money.
  • A Residuary legacy - this is the balance of your estate after all debts, taxes, expenses and other gifts have been paid.
  • A Specific legacy - this is a specific gift of value (such as jewellery, paintings, property or shares) that can be sold in order to raise funds or used for another purpose.
  • A Reversionary legacy - this is where you would leave a gift to CIBSE but allow someone else the use of it during their lifetime.
