Pipe Movements and Expansion Joints

Discussion of basic pipe movements, the forces exerted on pipes by expansion joints, expansion joint movements and finally how expansion joints can be used to solve piping problems. This is followed by a detailed consideration of the application and design of Rubber Bellows and Metal Expansion Joints.

Heat Exchangers, Generating hot water from ASHPs & Hybrid systems

This session covers an introduction to plate heat exchangers and packaged plate heat exchangers, and also demonstrates how they can be utilised to effectively generate hot water with ASHPs, or Hybrid systems with linked ASHPs and boilers.

The course is intended to give an overview of pipe movements and expansion joints. The course is presented in four modules which allows the
content to be tailored to the interests of the group.
The first module will always be delivered and focuses on basic pipe movements, the forces exerted on pipes by expansion joints, expansion
joint movements and finally how expansion joints can be used to solve piping problems.
The next three modules focus on three types of expansion joint – standard swivel flange rubber, engineered full face rubber and metal.
Topics for each type of expansion joint include as appropriate: Market, Typical product construction / bellows manufacturing, Selection
criteria, Performance deration with temperature, Sping rate, Squirm, Cycle Life, Scope options, Installation, Inspection
