Julie is a chartered engineer. She works as Head of Net Zero Policy for CIBSE, where she leads the work on CIBSE's Climate Action Plan, the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard, policy work, and collaboration with other institutions. She is the author of CIBSE TM40 – Health & Wellbeing in Building Services, and co-author of the Retrofit Revisit report, an evaluation of 10 deep retrofits from about 10 years ago.

Jennifer is an electrical engineer with 8 years of industry experience, working in Cundall’s building engineering team in London. She has experience delivering electrical design and working and collaborating across business sectors including commercial, residential, mixed use, education, and defence. Jennifer's recent experience centres around delivering sustainable net-zero carbon solutions for clients, developing decarbonisation strategies and advising on building performance. Jennifer is an IEng ACIBSE Professional Member and has previously been involved in several committees. She is now a CIBSE council member where she aims to support and champion, building performance and young professionals in the industry. I am Head of Technical Services for UK & Ireland at Sodexo, with 30 years’ experience across Hard FM, asset management and statutory compliance within complex, multi‑site estates. My work focuses on translating engineering standards, regulatory requirements and best‑practice guidance into practical, scalable solutions that improve safety, resilience, compliance and long‑term asset performance. I provide senior technical leadership across diverse portfolios, with particular expertise in planned maintenance governance, asset risk, competence assurance, data quality and lifecycle strategy. I am a contributor and author of national guidance for CIBSE, BSRIA and BSI, including updates to CIBSE Guide M, and remain actively involved in shaping industry standards through professional boards and working groups.
Dr Mina Hasman
Sustainability Director - SOM
Mina Hasman is a globally recognised sustainability expert and climate advocate, dedicated to transforming the built environment. As the Sustainability Director at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), she leads innovative projects worldwide. Mina played a key role in developing the UK’s Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard and pioneered SOM’s Whole Life Carbon Accounting methodology. She authored the RIBA Climate Guide—the first book aligning the UN Sustainable Development Goals with the built environment—and leads Climate Framework, uniting academia and industry in building a sustainable, equitable and climate-resilient future. She serves as the UNEP/GlobalABC Focal Point for the Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA) and chairs the UK Construction Industry Council’s Climate Change Committee. She is also Regional Vice President for Europe at the CAA and contributes to multiple international committees including the RIBA Council, RIBA Practice & Policy Board Committee, the Architects’ Council of Europe and World Green Building Council. Mina lectures at UCL (The Bartlett) and Manchester School of Architecture and is a frequent international keynote speaker. Recognised by TIME magazine as one of the world’s 100 most influential climate leaders, she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by University of Built Environment under King Charles III’s patronage.
Mina has experience in a wide variety of projects in the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, bringing a greater understanding of sustainable design in different climatic, social and regulatory contexts. Her expertise and years of climate leadership has led the TIME Magazine to identify her as one of the 100 most influential climate leaders in the world. For her contribution to the advancement of industry and academia, she was honoured with an Honorary Doctorate Degree by UCEM, under the patronage of King Charles III.
Mina is actively involved in the RIBA Council and the Practice & Policy Board Committee, UNEP/GlobalABC’s COP Task Force, Commonwealth Association of Architects (as Regional Vice President for Europe), UK CIC’s Climate Change Committee (as Chair), the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard (as the Stakeholder Engagement Lead) and the Architects’ Council of Europe.
She also regularly contributes to the wider climate change and wellbeing debate in her role as tutor at various academic institutions (including the UCL, The Bartlett & Manchester School of Architecture) and as a regularly-invited speaker at many international events. Mina is also the leader of the ‘Climate Framework’ - a global, transdisciplinary initiative, aiming to create a common language around climate change in the built environment context and to unite industry and academia for effective, long-lasting climate action. She is also the author of the ‘RIBA Climate Guide’ - structured around the Climate Framework’s key themes - which equips the built environment professionals with essential knowledge to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
Marianne Heaslip

Marianne is People Powered Retrofit’s co-founder and Technical Director, leading technical work across our services. As a qualified architect, Marianne brings over a decade of retrofit expertise. This includes retrofit at scale in social housing, community-led projects, and work on individual homes. Much of this was at URBED and in collaboration with Carbon Coop, prior to PPR being established as an independent organisation. She contributes to national retrofit standards, policy, and strategy. In collaboration with our partners and in our consultancy she continues to work to develop new tools and insights to support better retrofit.
Jess Hrivnak
Sustainability Lead - RIBA
Jess Hrivnak is the RIBA’s Sustainability Lead, and member of the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard (UKNZCBS)’s Technical Steering Group. She spearheads the Institute’s work on net zero and climate action guidance. She is responsible for the RIBA’s 2030 Climate Challenge guidance and is the author of the RIBA’s Chartered Practice Sustainable Development Toolkit, published to enable Practices to measure and improve their environmental, social, and ethical business impacts. She works collaboratively within the Institute and with partner organisations to improve climate literacy, align design targets, strategies and processes. She is frequent public speaker and is passionate about bridging gaps between sectors and disciplines to enable better guidance and action to improve planetary and human health outcomes. She guest tutors and lectures at various Universities on environmental design and sustainability policy.

David is the Chairman and Co-Founder of Senze Ltd and is Chairman of the Governance Board of the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard. He is also a Director of the BPF and of the Landaid Charity and sits on the Advisory Boards of Construct Zero and Standard Gas Technologies Ltd.
David joined Argent in 1990, he was appointed Joint Chief Executive in 2006 and Managing Partner of the new Argent LLP in 2012. He became Senior Partner in 2019 and Chairman of Related Argent in 2021, and retired in May 2025.
David read architecture at Cambridge and is a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects.

Dr Milena Stojkovic FCIBSE, RIBA is an architect and sustainability engineer. She is a Design Director at AtkinsRéalis in Dubai, focused on driving design innovation for projects across the Middle East. Prior to joining AtkinsRéalis, she was an Associate Partner at Foster+Partners London, where she led multidisciplinary teams on projects spanning the UK, North America, Asia, Australia, and the Middle East. She oversaw the integration of environmental design and sustainability strategies for Apple's global flagships, high-rise developments, airports, and healthcare facilities. She has been a tutor at the UCL Bartlett and has made significant contributions to industry standards and practices through organizations such as LETI, IATA and CIBSE. Milena is a CIBSE Fellow and currently serves as co-chair of the CIBSE Health & Wellbeing Working Group.

Lynne is an Architect, now a design consultant and Visiting Professor, and is a Design Advisor for local and national Design Review Panels, the Design Council and RIBA Competitions. Peter Thorns
Head of Strategic Lighting Applications - Zumtobel Group
After completing an honours degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering Peter joined Thorn Lighting in 1985. His roles involved electronics R+D, electronics manufacturing support, and developing and managing the UK CAD database across three manufacturing sites. In 1991 Peter joined the Lighting Applications Department, managing the section developing technical design software and managing photometric data. He also did optical design and managed the laboratory photometers and integrators. In 2008 Peter became Head of Strategic Lighting Applications for Thorn Lighting, participating in external standards and learned bodies’ activities, speculative applications research projects, supporting the Thorn Academy of Light, and the development of lighting techniques and tools. Peter is the current Vice-President Standards in CIE, chair of ISO/TC 274, and is involved in a wide number of BSI, CEN, and ISO committees. He is heavily involved in the LIA and LightingEurope and is an associate editor for Lighting Research and Technology.
Yara Machnouk

Yara Machnouk is a Sustainability Associate at Introba with a background in Architecture and Environmental Engineering. She has spent the past seven years working across net zero strategies, embodied carbon, circular economy and building physics, helping to deliver more sustainable buildings and infrastructure. Yara has played a role in shaping industry approaches to embodied carbon, contributing to the development of CIBSE TM65 and co-authoring TM65.1. She is also a verified TM65 trainer, supporting engineers and manufacturers in understanding and reducing the carbon impact of building services. Alongside her technical work, Yara is passionate about supporting the next generation of engineers.
