Judges' Comments: Al Maryah Tower is an exemplary retrofit project that demonstrates how adaptive reuse can deliver strong sustainability, economic, and community outcomes in the GCC context. The submission shows clear strengths in digital engineering, innovative MEP upgrades, and phased delivery strategies that enabled early tenant occupation while maintaining quality. Strong evidence is provided on energy and water savings, smart building certifications, and lessons learnt that are highly applicable to the wider industry.

Judges' Comments: This is one of the most complete and compelling submissions in the sustainability category. It balances cultural sensitivity, technical excellence, and net zero ambition. Strengths: triple certification targets, passive-first operation, rammed earth use, regional sourcing, and integration of tradition with advanced building systems.

The entry demonstrates clear business impact with strong metrics around time savings, error reduction, cost efficiency, and sustainability. Implementation shows good cultural change management and phased adoption. The AI-readiness and data-warehousing aspects strengthen its long-term potential. A solid, practical innovation with measurable operational benefits.

Winner: Heriot-Watt University Dubai Campus digital twin and dashboard POC for improved sustainability standards

Judges' Comments: A team of academics and facilities management at Heriot-Watt University Dubai Campus, led by Dr Hassam Chaudhry, Associate Professor in Building Services Engineering have developed a digital twin and dashboard proof-of-concept (POC) of the building for improved sustainability standards as part of the University’s climate action framework. The study has shown an impressive 15% energy savings across the campus studied.
