How To Enter & FAQ

Entries close 15 April 2026.

  • All SFE Façade 2025 Design and Engineering Awards entry categories are free to enter.  
  • The Awards will take place on 4 November at Old Billingsgate.

Entry Rules

Each category has its own specific entry requirements. Please select the category you wish to enter and look carefully at the entry requirements. 

 

No. Entries for 2026 must be new entries and cannot have been entered in any previous year of the awards. This applies for all categories including the Young Facade Engineer of the Year.

Entries may be considered in categories if additional work was done on the façade between 31 January 2025 and 1 February 2026.

Entries are limited to a maximum character count per section – any other information if required by judges will be requested by Awards committee.

The organisers reserve the right to reject any entry if, in their opinion, it fails to comply with the rules.

Entries previously entered in past years will be disqualified/rejected.

If you wish to appeal the decision, then this may be requested via email to [email protected], stating your reasoning for why the judges should reconsider.

If submitting on behalf of a client, clients must be made aware in advance of any entries that refer to them and the judges may require evidence of client endorsement.

Please only enter one category per project. The judges will advise if this should be considered for additional or an alternative categories.

The submission must be accompanied by your organisation's logo and up to four photographs/images of relevance. By submitting photographs of your project, the SFE has the right to use these images in relevant promotion of this and other events.

The judges have the authority to move entries into more applicable categories. Their decision is final and no correspondence will be entered following the Awards.

Receipt of entries will be acknowledged via an automatic email when an online entry form has been submitted.

If you have not received an email please email [email protected] with your project name, company name and name of submitter for the team to investigate.

By submitting photographs of your project, SFE have the right to use these images in relevant promotion of this and other events.

The organisers reserve the right to feature/display submitted material in any editorial or promotional work related to the Awards.

If a judge is connected with a nominated project, they will not be involved in the judging of that project.

Any organisation can submit up to 3 entries total for an award - this can be in one category or spread across multiple categories. Multiple submissions will require a separate Entry Form per submission.

Project of the Year Categories

This award celebrates small-scale projects that have made a significant contribution to the façade industry by resolving complex technical challenges or defining innovative architectural solutions. All projects shall demonstrate excellence in technical design and showcase innovation in façade engineering.
Entries for this category are welcome from the UK and internationally. Acceptable projects shall include facade packages with an overall value of less than £3M, or the equivalent in other currencies. Façade contracts are to be practically completed between 1 January 2024 and 31 December 2025 to be eligible.
This category recognises the work and dedication of the full project team. Applications can be entered by any team member, but other key members are to be mentioned. Please coordinate to avoid duplication of entries and provide details of the other company/companies you are submitting on behalf of.
This award celebrates refurbishment projects which have made a significant contribution to the discipline of facade engineering. Acceptable projects shall demonstrate technical excellence is developing retrofit solutions for building envelopes, enhancing the performance of existing buildings whilst providing visual character to the renovation.

This award celebrates commercial projects which have made a significant contribution to the discipline of facade engineering. Acceptable entries may include buildings for business use, such as offices, retail spaces, and industrial facilities.
Entries for this category are welcome from the UK and internationally. Facade contracts are to be practically completed between 1 January 2024 and 31 December 2025 to be eligible.
This category recognises the work and dedication of the full project team. Applications can be entered by any team member, but other key members are to be mentioned. Please coordinate to avoid duplication of entries and provide details of the other company/companies you are submitting on behalf of.
This award celebrates arena, stadia, and infrastructure projects which have made a significant contribution to the discipline of facade engineering. Acceptable entries may include sports buildings, stadia, arenas, airports, railway stations, and ports, and other infrastructure typologies where facades play a key role in the project development.

This category recognises the work and dedication of the full project team. Applications can be entered by any team member, but other key members are to be mentioned. This award celebrates refurbishment projects that have made a significant contribution to the discipline of façade engineering. Acceptable entries may include protected/listed projects, buildings of high cultural value, or internationally recognised architectural masterpieces.

Enter "Project of the Year - Refurbishment Heritage"

This award celebrates residential projects that have made a significant contribution to the discipline of facade engineering. Acceptable entries may include mixed-use projects where the clear majority of the building is of residential purpose - a majority would be in the region of 80% the floor area or more.

This category recognises the work and dedication of the full project team. Applications can be entered by any team member, but other key members are to be mentioned. Please coordinate to avoid duplication of entries and provide details of the other company/companies you are submitting on behalf of.
This award celebrates public and private institution projects that have made a significant contribution to the discipline of facade engineering. Acceptable entries may include buildings for schools, tertiary education, and healthcare. This can include public and privately owned projects.

"Best Use Of..." Categories

This award recognises the growing importance of digital technology in the facade industry.
Entries in this category are welcome from the UK and internationally, and shall be based on applications developed after 31 December 2022.
Acceptable digital technologies may include AI, machine learning, BIM, digital twings, parametric & generative design, performance optimisation tools, construction cloud solutions.
Entries based on proprietary tools are acceptable, but need to demonstrate the innovative nature of the application.
Academic research projects are to be excluded from this category, as applications need to be based on live projects.
This award celebrates precast projects that have made a significant contribution to the discipline of facade engineering. Acceptable entries may include all building types and uses.
Entries for this category are welcome from the UK and internationally. Facade contracts are to be practically completed between 1 January 2024 and 31 December 2025 to be eligible.

This award celebrates metal projects which have made a significant contribution to the discipline of facade engineering. Acceptable entries may include all building types and uses.

Aluminium is not included as one of the materials to be put forward for this category, due to its widespread use in the facade industry. Special project applications based on cast aluminium products/solutions can be considered as an exception to this exclusion.

Celebration Categories

This award is granted to the individual who received the top-scoring dissertation at the UWE MSc for Façade Engineering.

This award cannot be entered by any other means and is not part of the judges' deliberations.

This award recognises and rewards someone who has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to the Façade Engineering industry throughtout their entire career.
Nominations can be sent to [email protected]. Please include the name and explain in no more than 100 words why they are a deserved recipient.
This category recognises the next generation of façade engineers who have more than two and less than five years of Related Experience*, as of the date of the Awards, 4 November 2026. The judges will be assessing the individual's contributions to the industry and their organisation. The application should give examples of the impact the individual has had on their key project(s) from performance, innovation, collaboration, quality, and client satisfaction perspectives. The application should describe how the individual has advanced their knowledge across the range of façade design considerations.
Entrants must hold an active Affiliate or higher membership of the SFE.
*Related experience consists of experience within the building envelope industry, such as architecture and engineering.
Your entry will be scored on:
- Understanding of the holistic scope of a façade engineer
- Impact in the Industry/your company
- Expertise, especially your practical application of your expertise in built solutions.
A shortlist of candidates will be selected and the final round will consist of interviews on the same theme of questions within the entry form.

This award will identify the best expression of façade engineering throughout the six 'Project of the Year' categories. It will not be possible to apply for this category. The winner will be selected directly by the judges amongst the shortlisted candidates from the other six categories.

This category is exclusively considered by the judges on the basis of all entries submitted for the other categories. This cannot be entered.
