Book NowJoin CIBSE for an insightful presentation exploring how sustainability principles are embedded into real-world design and construction, using the ECU City Campus as a living case study.
Designed to achieve a Five Star Green Star rating, ECU City Campus demonstrates how ambitious sustainability targets can be translated into practical outcomes. The project incorporates a range of energy-efficient and people-focused strategies, including:
- Adaptive climate control systems that respond to changing environmental conditions
- Efficient building fabric to reduce energy consumption and reduce HVAC plant sizing
- Sun shading and passive design features that minimise heat gain and energy use
- Seamless integration with public transport, located above the Perth Busport and close to major train lines, supporting low-emissions commuting
Situated within the Perth City Link precinct beside Yagan Square, the campus enhances urban vibrancy while reducing dependence on private vehicles. Its location above a major bus and rail interchange enables lower-carbon travel choices for students and staff alike.
The campus also prioritises social sustainability. Outdoor green terraces and landscaped communal areas are integrated throughout the development, creating welcoming spaces for social connection, relaxation, and informal study. Public and semi-public areas are intentionally designed to be inclusive, strengthening community engagement and reinforcing the campus as part of the broader city fabric.
